How are we on the 16th December already? This month seems to be slipping away from me. I think I perhaps have too many expectations for my time when I have 2 children under 4 and the six month old doesn’t sleep well at all. We have packed a fair amount in this week and my husband is now off work until the 3rd January so it should be easier to finish all the essentials on my to do list and do some fun things too.
We’ve continued to enjoy our book advent calendar this week. I’ve not been that good at sharing the book on instagram on the day though. My favorite this week has been the Jolly Christmas postman. I always wanted the original Jolly postman book as a child (my cousins had it), I think it is the novelty of the items in the envelops in the book I liked. As a parent (particularly one who hates missing parts of toys etc) I’ve had difficulty with letting my daughter have free access to this book as she removes all the pieces!
My eldest was in her first nativity at preschool this week. My husband took the day off work and we went along to watch. She was a star (there were four stars). It was lovely to see her face light up when she spotted us in the audience. I was so proud of her sat up on the stage in front of a room full of strangers.
My eldest singing christmas songs. As well as ones from the nativity, she has also been singing “We wish you a merry Christmas and happy you’ll be”. I almost don’t want to correct her.
I took the tiny one to a special Christmas version of a local baby and preschool music class with a friend and her youngest earlier in the week. The tiny one was all smiles listening to the music and loved me doing the actions with her or dancing with her in my arms. I don’t do as many classes as I did with my eldest so this felt extra special. I also took the pair along to a play group Christmas party yesterday which included singing carols in church to the small church congregation. I loved hearing my eldest sing along and watching my youngest enjoy listening to the singing.
My girls have been wearing their Christmas dresses this week. My youngest has been wearing this dress that belonged to my eldest. It’s lovely to see her wearing things I dressed my eldest in 3 years ago.
We had a little party with my friends who I met when my eldest was a baby. It’s always lovely to see all the children playing together as we don’t get to meet up as a big group often anymore. I put the girls in their dresses and tried to take a nice photo of them together. The tiny one is never comfortable when being held by my eldest and wriggles a lot!
This week we made hand print Christmas cards for close family. I had to stifle my inner perfectionist though as getting two “perfect” hand prints on one card was not possible. I love these cards though and I know the girls grandparents and aunties will treasure them too.
And lastly …..
We had an afternoon out at Salford quays on Sunday. I wanted to see some of the light installations that are part of light waves 2016. I wrote more about it earlier in the week. My eldest loved the Noddy and postman pat lights, borrowed from Blackpool illuminations. We really must start visiting Blackpool illuminations next year.
