Family time, York and cooking #littleloves

Well this week has flown by. We spent a long weekend in York with my family, celebrating my mum’s 60th birthday. All the cakes I baked last Thursday were throughly enjoyed by all.

This week the ladybird discovered she loved Noddy stories from a book that was mine when I was about her age. It’s the only book she let me read from Sunday onwards. I know I have loads more books from my childhood in my parents loft. I really wish they would get more of them out as I have loved reading these stories with her.

I’ve not watched much tv this week with being away at the weekend. I have lots of great tv recorded on my sky box though so I hope to start making my way through that soon. I did watch and enjoy the final of this year’s Stella. I can’t believe this series is over again all ready.

The ladybird has been talking none stop about her holiday this week. From looking at the chickens with her auntie and telling me all about the dinosaur bench (which was actually a viking boat bench but I can see how she got confused) and lots of stories about going on trains. We took her to the National railway museum on Saturday (full blog post coming up in the next week or so) and she loved everything about it. There were lots of trains that you could go inside, some that you could walk underneath and bridges where you could walk over the trains and she loved them all. There were also a couple of really good play areas for under 5’s, one inside and one outside.IMG_4769.jpg

Lovely day in York. We spent the morning at the national railway museum. The ladybird loved it.

It felt a little warmer here yesterday so I wore my new spring jacket. This is a picture of it but it is from the Joules website (not me wearing it, I can’t even fasten it up!). I got it at the York designer outlet last weekend and absolutly love it. I just hope we don’t get heavy rain when I need to leave the house any time soon, as like I said I can not fasten this or any of my coats anymore!Untitled-1

After last Thursdays busy day of baking, I’ve not baked anything this week. However I have cooked a couple of interesting things. Firstly I made a risotto with olives and  sundried tomatoes for tea on Wednesday night which I topped with a fillet of sea bream. My husband often complains that we eat too much pasta (in my defense it is mostly on work nights as it is so fast and most of the meals I freeze ahead for work nights go best with pasta). We also don’t eat fish enough so this delicious dish made a lovely change.

Trying something new tonight. Sea bream with sun-dried tomato and olive risotto

Then Thursday lunch time I made mini pizzas using wholemeal pitta breads for mine and the ladybirds lunch. We both really enjoyed this so I will have to make it again sometime. I’m not very good at making an effort at lunch times. All too often we eat cheese sandwiches so this was a lovely change and really didn’t take much effort.

And lastly…

I’m working tomorrow and then apart from working Easter Monday I am off for the next two weeks. I can’t wait. The only real difference though is the ladybird will be in nursery monday and Tuesday so I will get the first few days to myself in ages. It won’t be that calm though as work starts first thing Monday on our new bathrooms. I’m really looking forward to having a new family bathroom as our is not only ugly but doesn’t function that well.

Love that jacket, it’s gorgeous! Sounds like you had a great time with your parents. I love having a root around in my parents loft, always find some great things I can pass on to my two from when I was little. Have a lovely weekend x

I really wish I could get in my parents loft but they do not have a proper loft ladder so even when I’m not pregnant I can’t get in! I know they kept all my childhood toys and books. Would love some of them for my daughter.

Gorgeous jacket, I’m the same with coats too (and cardigans for that matter). I love York, haven’t been since my hen do, really should make the effort to go, it isn’t that far from us. xx

At least the weather is improving so we can manage without fastening up jackets! I love York too, this was my first trip since I was a child though. x
