I can’t round up my week without mentioning the terrible terrorist attack in Manchester. I switched on the radio on Tuesday morning and I could instantly tell by the tone of Chris Evans that something bad had happened. Then I heard Manchester, panicked and did a quick Google search. At the time my husband was in the middle of his daily commute into Manchester. I don’t know if it’s living so close or because so many children were involved but it hit me hard. I know I’m not alone in feeling like this. It’s at times like these that looking for the positives in my week is so important.
June’s The simple things magazine came through my letter box this afternoon (I’m writing this Thursday evening). I’m looking forward to having a flick through it tonight after I’ve written this post. I don’t think I’ve finished May’s issue yet though. I love my subscription but I struggle to make time to read it each month. I always get there though and I know that one day E will sleep better and I will get my evenings back (and more sleep!).
I watched Dear beautiful‘s Dubai blogs this week. They made me really want to visit.
On Sunday, we had a trip to Hare Hill (a National Trust garden and woodland) to picnic and play with our friends. I made a really good group of friends four years ago when F was a baby. The children all have their birthdays within 6 weeks of each other so we usually have a joint party of some sort. I loved watching F play with her friends. She doesn’t see some them that much so it took her a while to find her confidence to join in. I loved watching them run around the woodland spotting the wood carved hare sculptures.
I’ve been making extra portions of meals this week so we have some quick freezer meals on my working days. I made a lasagna, lamb and aubergine and a chilli con carne. I also baked soda bread with F on Saturday.
We spent thursday in the garden and F enjoyed water play, painting and drawing with chalk on the patio.
I went shopping on Monday morning and bought a couple of tops. The one on the left is for work and the one on the right for my days off. I love them both and I have been wearing them this week. I also wore a skirt yesterday since it was so hot.
The kids have also been in their summer clothes some days. I love this little romper of E’s despite it not being as bright as my usual taste. It used to be F’s so it has lots of memories.
How well my youngest did at her first nursery settling in session. She went for 2 hours on Monday afternoon and I left her for 90 minutes. During the 30 minutes I was there I watched her explore. She didn’t look for me once. She has seen some of the staff briefly every week when we pick up or drop off F and we’ve done a few baby yoga sessions together in the baby room. I was still surprised to hear she didn’t bother at all when I wasnt there. She played, explored and ate the beans and toast they gave her. The staff commented on how well she did and that it was nothing like most first sessions. My eldest was just the same. I’m hoping her next session goes just as well.
And lastly ….
We’ve not made plans for the bank holiday yet but I’m still looking forward to the extra day with my husband off work. Next week is also my last week of maternity leave. This last 12 months has certainly flown by.
