Where is Shugborough Hall?
Shugborough hall is 6 miles east of Stafford. It takes about 15-20 minutes to reach it from junction 13 of the M6. The route is well sign posted or you can use the postcode for Sat Nav grid location 52.789294, -2.033064.
There is plenty of free parking (for National Trust members).

Children’s play area
Let’s start with the most important part of any National Trust for children, the playground. The size and quality of children’s playground varies across different National Trust properties. The one at Shugborough estate is one of favourites.
There is lots for children of all ages to do in this fantastic natural play area. Highlights include the zip wire, the tree trunks with colourful climbing foot/hand holds added and loads more bits for climbing on, up or through!
The children’s play area is not that far from the car park either so you could visit it as soon you arrive. You’ll find it through the kitchen garden in woodlands.
Working model farm and exhibition
There is a small farm which is a working farm. On our visit we saw pigs and chickens. There are also Southdown sheep and Longhorn cattle that graze the parkland.
The farm is in a small courtyard and there is a small cafe with lots of outdoor seating as well a farm exhibition on the opposite sides.
Children’s activities and trails
The National Trust put on regular children’s trails and other activities for kids in school holidays. When we visited there was a lovely blossom trail with crayon rubbing stations around the estate.
Pram-friendly paths
There are lots of paths around the estate at Shugborough and the majority of them are suitable for pushchairs. It is possible to walk around the gardens, along the river and to the house, play area and farm with a pushchair.
This is one of the reasons we love visiting National Trust properties as they are perfect for prams and young children.
Balance bikes and small bikes with stabilizers friendly
As I mentioned above the paths are flat and this National Trust property currently allows budding cyclists on balance bikes or bikes with stabilizers. Scooters are also welcome here.
Places to eat and drink at Shugborough Hall
There is a cafe at park farm which is really family-friendly. We love the ice creams form this area too.
There is also a tea room in the mansion (we haven’t visited this one so I can’t comment on how child-friendly it is).
Family-friendly facilities at Shugborough Hall
You’ll find all the usual facilities that you would expect at a National Trust. This includes a gift and plant shop, secondhand book shop,
There are toilets, and baby changing facilities at Park Farm, the Plant Centre and the Midden Yard as well as accessible toilets and changing places.
Are dogs allowed at Shugborough Estate?
Dogs are allowed throughout Sugborough estate but they must be kept on leads at all times.
