Treasure baskets are quick to put together and they make a great mess-free sensory play for babies. You can include anything from around the house. You don’t need to buy anything new, so it is a simple and cheap activity. Try to include things with different textures, colours and perhaps sounds. Since they include items that are not designed to be played with by babies, use your judgement and supervise your baby at all times.
Both my girls have enjoyed treasure baskets that I have put together for them. I’ve done all sorts of different ones over the years including shiny things, individual colours, nursery rhymes and a treasure basket of different balls. Valentine’s day treasure basket
This is a simple red treasure basket which is a great Valentine activity for toddlers or babies. I put together using lots of red toys and some red items I found around the house. I have a lot of red in my kitchen so I included a whisk, spatula, measuring spoons and my keys are on a red ribbon so I included these too. There were also toys such as a red ball, a red piece of fabric from a toy, stacking cup, fabric stacking cube with a red textured side, a red lid from a set of foam bath letters and finally her happy apple toy which makes a lovely noise.

She sat for some time, happily taking items out of the basket and examining them before moving on to another item. Of course, some of them went straight to her mouth. I used my judgement and removed the ones I was not happy with her chewing (keys for example). It was a lovely activity that she enjoyed.
