A patio is a great addition to your garden that can help to break up your outdoor space and get more use out of it. You can use it as a place to relax in the sun, cook on the BBQ, and entertain friends. But designing a patio is not as simple as just putting a few slabs down, there are actually a lot of things to consider. If you want to design a patio area for your garden, here are a few things to keep in mind.
Size and Location
Firstly, you need to decide how big your patio is going to be and where it is going to go. Start out by thinking about the different ways that you use the garden by adding Adairs armchairs to it and how the patio will fit in with that.
For example, if you want a kid friendly garden, you need to make sure that you don’t take up the entire space with the patio and that there are still plenty of grassy areas for the kids to play. Make sure that your patio is big enough that you can use it, but it doesn’t take up too much of the useful space in the garden.
When deciding on a location for the patio, you need to consider where the sun falls. If you only get sun for a few hours, you won’t get much use out of it. See which areas of the garden get the sun for the longest and use that as a guide for deciding on patio placement.
However, make sure to consider drainage, especially if you have a sloped garden. The patio needs to go at the top of the slope so it doesn’t fill up with water when it rains.
Furniture
Once you have decided on a location for the patio, you can start thinking about your furniture choices. This all depends on what you want to use the patio for, for example, if you want to have BBQs out there, you’ll need a table and chairs for eating. But if you are just hoping to sit out there and soak up the sun, you can order some great sun loungers online. If you are not going to put a covering over the patio, it’s best to invest in foldable furniture that can easily be put inside to protect it from the rain.
Plants
If you want to brighten up your patio area, you should get some plants out there. If you install a trellis, you can get some great climbing plants, which look nice and can provide some shade in the summer.
You should also get some plants in pots and containers to add a burst of colour as well. If you are not a keen gardener, look for hardy plants that don’t need too much care to keep alive. Your patio area won’t look very inviting if it is covered in dead plants and empty pots. If you can get all of these aspects right, you should be able to design the perfect patio area for your garden.
