Sandringham camping and caravan club site review

Sandringham camping and camping and caravanning club entrance that looks like log cabin

We’ve recently got back from 2 weeks touring Norfolk and Suffolk in our Mazda bongo campervan. This was the first Campsite we stayed on and we loved it so here is my Sandringham Camping and Caravanning Club Site review

We are members of camping and caravan club so our stay was cheaper than if we weren’t members. It was still one of the most expensive sites we’ve stayed on but its location allowed us to walk into Sandringham Estate so we saved on parking. To be clear, we paid for our own stay. This is not a sponsored post. Find all my uk family days out and holidays here.

Where is Sandringham Camping and Caravanning Club site

Sandringham Camping and Caravanning Club Site is located in the woods near Sandringham Estate and the village of Dersingham in Norfolk.

Facilities at Sandringham Camping and Caravanning Club site

You’ll find all the facilities you need and expect from a campsite. There are 3 amenities blocks. Our pitch was opposite block 1 which we were asked to use. So my review is based on our experience of these facilities.

The facilities are in a log cabin building, with the ladies toilets and showers on one side and the men’s on the other. On the smaller ends you’ll find a family bathroom on one side and on the other there is a laundry, washing up area and disabled facilities.

There is also a bin area, wastewater point, drinking water tap, chemical toilet emptying point, motorhome service point and even a rotary washing line.

The facilities were regularly cleaned and we saw the staff wandering around, making checks and cleaning and restocking essentials frequently. We never needed to queue for the showers or toilets during our stay.

Pitches

The pitches are well spread out through the site and they’re a good size. There are hardstanding and grass pitches to choose from. Some of the grass pitches have EHU and some don’t. We had a grass pitch with EHU which backed onto the storage caravans so it was a lovely quiet area. One thing worth noting is some pitches are a little further from the EHU points. We were able to borrow a very long connecting cable from the site though. On some pitches, the EHU point is much nearer.

On site activities

There are two children’s play areas on site which my kids (5 and 8 years old) loved. One had a wooden play frame with climbing areas and slides and the other had similar and swings too.

A fish and chip van (the village fryer) come to the site at approximately 6pm on Saturdays and Tuesdays. We had cod and chips, scampi and chips and the kids had chicken nuggets. It was very reasonably priced (around £15 for our order) and they were some of the best fish and chips we have had in a long time. Make sure you place your order as soon as you spot the van and be prepared to return to collect about 30-40 minutes later.

Walks directly from Sandringham Camping and Caravanning Club site

As I mentioned earlier, Sandringham Estate is within walking distance of the campsite. We walked from the campsite to the estate and back following the woodland and country park walk here. In total it is 4 miles. It’s a relatively flat walk and the paths are wide and smooth so you could definitely do the walk with a pushchair.

There are also paths leading into the woods dotted around the campsite for dog walkers etc. It’s a lovely campsite for walkers and also cyclists too. A great location for enjoying family walks.

Thing to do near Sandringham Camping and Caravanning Club site

There are lots of things to do in this area of Norfolk. We didn’t have time to do everything we wanted at all. We had one day walking around the Sandringham Estate and one day we drove to Wells-next-the-sea (about a 30 minute drive) and had a fantastic family beach day. Here are some attractions in the area you might like to visit.

  • Sandringham Estate – the amazing kids playground is in the free area (parking charges apply if you don’t walk up from the campsite). You need a ticket to see the house and gardens. The house is very private and without an entry ticket you can’t see it. The country park is great for a walk and kids of all ages will love the play area.

What we love about Sandringham Camping and Caravanning Club site

We loved the 3 nights we spent in our campervan at the Sandringham camping and caravanning club site in July 2021. We enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of camping in a forest as well as being surrounded by nature. There are lots of birds to be seen and heard around the site. Do pack your insect repellant though as we did get a lot of insect bites. This is just the downside of camping in the forest I guess and one we will accept and prepare for on future visits. It hasn’t put us off.

The staff on site were helpful and friendly. They ride bikes around the campsite to show you to your pitch on arrival and we frequently saw them around keeping the site clean and tidy. We were very happy with the facilities block and our kids loved the play areas. We would definitely visit again if we were in this area of Norfolk again. Find out more and book your visit here.
