There’s no better time to start thinking about spending more time outdoors with your family than in spring. As the weather warms ups, spending time outdoors with kids definitely becomes easier. We do get outdoors as a family all year round but we manage far less time in winter.

Getting outdoors has so many benefits for all the family. I’ve written about the benefits of getting kids outdoors before. It’s not just kids though, we can all benefit from more time in nature. Not only can you get lots of benefits physically from walking, but spending time outside is fantastic for your mental health too.
I’ve definitely noticed that we all feel calmer and happier outdoors. We’re planning lots of family walks and campervan adventures this spring and summer. Our raincoats and walking boots are going to get plenty of use.
We love exploring the stunning UK coast and countryside too. You’ll usually find us on a family walk or at a campsite in our Mazda Bongo campervan. I really do think we are spoilt for choice with places to holiday in this country but this year we’re hoping to take the van into Europe too.
What did we choose from Very’s fantastic range of big-name brands?
It really was a difficult decision choosing our coats and footwear as there are so many brands to choose from including many big names in the outdoor clothing market that I know and trust. My requirements for good outdoor clothing for families is waterproof (we’ve been caught in plenty of rain showers), lightweight for packing and carrying on walks and walking boots that are comfortable for family walks.
For the girls, I chose a pair of Jack Wolfskin kid’s woodland waterproof mid-height walking boots in blue and pink. We love them and they are great quality. My girls love them and they find them really comfortable too.
When it came to raincoats, I chose a Regatta Kids Calderdale II Waterproof Jacket in Fuchsia. We know we can trust that Regatta will be truly waterproof. For my youngest, I chose this very cute Joules Girls Raindance Horse Spot Raincoat. My 5 year old adores the cute pattern. Perhaps there’ll be fewer battles to get her to wear a coat now!
For my husband, we chose a pair of Karrimor walking shoes and a Craghopper Orion Waterproof Hooded Jacket. The walking shoes are light weight and comfortable and he loves the colour and fir of the waterproof jacket. It’s really lightweight so perfect for packing in rucksacks in case of unexpected rain showers.
For myself, I chose a pair of Regatta lady holcombe IEP mid ankle walking boots. This is my second pair of Regatta walking boots as I really find them very comfortable, affordable and lightweight. Perfect for all our family walks.
For a raincoat, I chose Didriksons Wida waterproof jacket in saffron. I love yellow and this jacket is very lightweight so it will be perfect for being prepared for all those summer rain showers. The hood is also really big, I don’t know about you but I often find hoods not big enough so this is a welcome addition. Didrikson is a brand that I trust for kid’s waterproofs so I’m pleased to be trying one of my own.
So that’s what we choose from Very for all our outdoor adventures this spring and summer. We’ve just booked our first couple of spring campervan trips for a few weeks’ time. These coats and boots will be the first things we pack ready for exploring Yorkshire and Wales.
