3 tips to optimise family help

If you’re spending the time to read a blog such as this, and you have children, it’s not hard to assume that you are a competent and caring parent. Anyone interested in learning more about the beauty and different habits involved in raising the best family you can, whether that’s learning how to best camp with your toddlers, or taking inspiration from the adventures other families face, it’s likely you have nothing but the best intentions at heart.

However, often these best intentions may not always be considered when it comes to family health. Every family has their indulgences, but once in a while, it can be good to review your spending, dietary and behavioural habits as a loving collective, and try to figure out ways to improve.  You may not find anything that you wish to change. You might find a couple of simple alternative purchases or habits you might wish to implement. No matter what, the intention is what matters, and so no matter your decisions you’re likely going to be on the right path.

Here are a few things to consider to get the ball rolling:

Sugar Intake

Sugar is perhaps one of the most favoured things that any child enjoys, but often it can lead to hyperactivity, and it’s often not healthy. Sugar can come in many forms, even those that are less obvious. It might be that the bread you buy has a high sugar content without you knowing it. It might be that your children’s continual requests for apple juice (and the brand you choose) are introducing them to many refined sugars that you may not have expected.

Sugar intake can be a negative for many reasons. Lowering it could be a priority. However, consider healthy forms of sugar intake to prevent the grumbling from your children from becoming too frequent. For example, you may choose heirloom strawberry varieties served with cream instead of a large bowel of ice cream for dessert. It might mean having your husband switch to small volumes of whiskey instead of drinking beers on a Friday night. There are always healthier options.

Exercise

Families that exercise together are often the closest. Does this mean you need to sign your entire family up to the insanity workout regimen? Of course not. However, making more of a habit to enjoy family bike rides, walking the dogs together at the weekend, heading on days out or many other small activities that get you out of the house could help you take care of this, and will heighten the calories everyone burns. This can be an incredibly positive change for some families who may spend too much time seated or inside, and the effort will have the benefit of staying continually fun!

Responsibilities

Teaching your family responsibilities can not only help them support the household in general but to defuse arguments or conflict that occurs from a lack of care. Teaching your children to clean their rooms and expecting that to be upheld is essential in the first instance. Allocating chores that some complete can help them feel a sense of agency and competence, no matter how much they might protest. This might mean asking your child to take care of the washing up or dishwasher duty after mealtime, while one child may keep the living room clean and tidy. This can help your children turn into competent, non-apathetic people, and generally, raise the atmosphere of the house to be more of a positive one.

With these simple tips, you are sure to optimize your family’s health to an excellent degree.
