I say it every time but seriously where has the last month gone? The tiny ladybird has changed so much this month. Just as she turned 2 months we went away on our first family holiday as a four. We had a lovely time in Anglesey.
Weight
At 10 weeks she weighed 10lb 4oz and had dropped from the 25% percentile. I was a bit surprised by this as she seemed to be feeding loads at this point. However I have no other concerns with her so I’m not going to worry about it. She still fits some up to 1 month clothes (they say up to 10lbs) but I’ve always found sizes to be bigger in some shops anyway. She mostly wears 0-3 months clothes and has lots of room in them. My eldest was small too and the plus side is they get plenty of wear out of their clothes.
Feeding
We are still exclusively breastfeeding and it is going really well. There is still no routine and the length between them varies so much during the day. I’m just going with it and feeding when she wants to even if that means twice in an hour sometimes and once every 3 hours at other times.
Sleep
Sleep is really improving. We’ve not done any sleep training or anything. Whilst we were away at 9 weeks she started to start missing her 1am feed occasionly. This means from anywhere between 9 and 11pm she is sleeping until around 3am. At 11 weeks she started sleeping from 10pm until 5:30am. This lasted a few days and then she started waking around 1am again. The day she turned 12 weeks she slept from 8pm until almost 8am! She’s going to bed around 8pm most nights now and sleeping until at least 5am most days. After a feed she will generally go back until 7am. She still has some nights where she wakes eariler and more frequently. Although it’s not consistent I’m making the most of some more sleep when I can. She’s also a lot better at having naps in her basket. Some days though she is not happy to be put down for a nap still but she’s doing better.
Health
She had her first set of immunisations at 10 weeks, a little late due to clinics being cancelled over the summer. She was quiet unsettled for 24 hours but she didn’t get a fever.
Development
Her head control is pretty good now and she prefers to be held upright so she can see what’s going on. She’s very alert and you can see her watching what is going on around her. She tracks objects with her eyes well and can recognise us from across the room.
She has become interested in watching the toys above her bouncy chair. She’s found the hands too and loves hitting them. She’s also just started grabbing things. She is also a thumb suckered and a fist chewer. Sometimes this is for comfort to help her settle herself to sleep and sometimes this is her way of letting me know she is hungry. I used to be a heavy sleeper but often I wake up from hearing her sucking her thumb madly.
Sometimes she settles herself to sleep, other times she needs help to fall asleep for naps. More often than not she falls asleep feeding especially in the evening.
The tiny ladybird is on the whole is a placid, happy baby. Her whole face lights up when she smiles her beautiful wide mouthed smile. It’s not too hard to get a smile out of her. She loves being sung to especially the wheels on the bus with actions. She started laughing this month which is usually reserved for me or her daddy. Things that make her laugh include singing to her, making silly sounds (like ba ba) and washing or drying the palms of her hands.
I’ve signed us up to baby swimming lessons as this was something I enjoyed with my eldest. Last week was her first lesson and she surprised me by having no reaction at all at first. To say she’d never been swimming before she didn’t even look shocked by being immersed in water. On the whole I would say she enjoyed swimming. She preferred being on her front to her back but relaxed more on her back when a mirror was held up in front of her. In her second lesson she did better on her back. She also did her first underwater swim which understandably upset her.
She is trying desperately to roll from her back to her front but hasn’t yet managed. She can move herself backwards though when lying on her back. Tummy time is not her favourite activity but she prefers it now I’ve started using a tummy time roll. She loves being held upright so she can bounce on her legs. I can’t wait to get the jumperoo out when she’s bigger.
She’s been making little cooing sounds when she is happy but this past week she’s started making much louder noises to get attention. It’s definitely not crying but more shouting.
