With all the lovely weather we are currently enjoying in the UK, you might be starting to think about ways to keep your kids entertained outdoors. I have plenty of inspiration for you here on the blog and lots more planned for the next few months. Another great source of inspiration though is a great new book from the bloggers behind Little button diaries, The big book of 100 outdoor activities.

This book includes 100 different ideas for activities to with your kids outdoors in all weathers. They are split into different categories such as wildlife spotting, art and crafts, rainy day and games. Most of the ideas are quite crafty too. As you all know I’m passionate about getting children outdoors as well as creativity so this book could not be more perfect for us.
The book starts with an introduction to why encouraging children’s natural interest in nature is so important. We also get a little insight into their children and their love of craft and nature. It then moves on to hints and tips for getting started. This includes lists of natural materials that can be used for crafts and other materials that you’ll need for activities in the book. Don’t worry though, they are everyday craft supplies that you will no doubt already own.
The book is full of colour from cover to cover and the activities are all complimented by beautiful photos. All of the activities include at least one full-colour photograph. Most of the activities include full-colour step by step photos, making it really easy to follow the instructions.
Some of the activities will complement other activities that you might already be doing such as starting gardening with children. For example, newspaper seedling pots or a milk bottle watering can.
This book is the perfect addition to any family bookshelf. You will be inspired time and time again to try different activities with your children. I can’t wait to work through these ideas with my girls. My favourite ideas so far are feather printing, a water wall and a toy camping set.

i love playing football with my little man.. and my daughter has a new favourite pass time of painting rocks and hiding them around our area for people to find and make them smile!

Collecting shells at the seaside
We like hunting for mini beasts. My granddaughter has a toy called “Bugnoculars” which is sort of like binoculars with an attached clear box, so we can put the woodlouse or whatever in the box, then view it magnified many times. Of course we always return the bugs back to where we found them.
Puddle jumping is a favourite but we also like to take walks and look at the flowers in the park or in peoples gardens and if we can we like to smell them as well.

I love a treasure hunt, If we are going for a walk I’ll draw objects on a paper bag like a feather or a twig and my little girl will try to find them all whilst on our adventure.

My two year old loves visiting the local children’s farm, talking to Mr Rabbit, Mr Goat and the piglets 🙂 We go every week.
We used to have a huge woods behind our house when I was a child. We always loved making dens in it.
