Keeping up a healthy lifestyle is essential for any growing child. Being outdoors gives your children the chance to get some exercise, promotes creativity and curiosity, promotes learning, and improves their mental and emotional health. However, with the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, there is a need to ensure that your children are safe and sound. So, what fun yet safe outdoor activities can you engage your kids in? Here are a few ideas you should consider.

  1. Have a scavenger hunt!

Children love surprises, and creating a challenging yet fun scavenger hunt in your backyard is the perfect outdoor activity. Through the constant running around and searching for goodies all over the garden, scavenger hunts help improve your children’s physical wellbeing. It also enhances the child’s problem-solving skills. What makes this outdoor activity safe is that your kids can do it right at home! Ensure that they wash their hands thoroughly after the hunt to get rid of harmful germs.

  1. Select a sitting spot

Social distancing is another precautionary measure the World Health Organization (WHO) has suggested individuals consider in these difficult times. However, at home, this can be pretty difficult- it is almost impossible with children. This is why you should create designated sitting spots for everyone in the family outside. By doing this, your children can enjoy some time outside doing activities they love, such as reading, painting, or just chit-chatting with you, while enjoying some alone time. So, find a shady spot in the garden, get some canvas sun loungers, and enjoy the breezy, fresh air with your children at a reasonable distance apart from each other.

  1. Go balcony camping

You probably had big family camping plans, which were ruined by the outbreak of the pandemic. That’s unfortunate, but your camping dreams can become a reality. You can create a campsite for your kids on your balcony. It may not be what you intended, but you would get a whole different camping experience you did not expect. On your balcony, build a tent, pack some snacks, and get some comfortable clothes and blankets. You can create a truly memorable camping experience for your children without taking the risk of going to a national park.

  1. Start a vegetable garden

Gardening is hard work and fun! So your children would likey love to start a vegetable garden from start to finish. First, clear and markup the space you would want them to plant their vegetables in. Next, teach them how to rake the area and clear out the weeds. Once this is done, they can start planting! Be sure to be around to keep a watchful eye on them when they use sharper garden tools like the spade or garden fork. You can also make this botany adventure even more fun by encouraging them to keep a journal of their planting experience.

Staying indoors during this period is safe for you and your family. However, you children really do need a bit of fun outside. You should try these four activities with your little ones to keep them safe, active, and happy!
