As you know we love family walks and other outdoor family adventures. We never go out walking without a basic first aid kit though. With young children minor injuries are common. That’s why I like to carry a small family first aid kit with me that will stop scrapes and bruises from ruining our day out. As an outdoor loving family with young children, it’s not uncommon for at least one of my girls to fall over at least once on our family walks. That’s why I always carry a few basic supplies so we can easily clean up scraped knees or elbows. If my 4 year old doesn’t fall over at least once on a family walk, I’m amazed.
What’s in our first aid kit for family walks?
We have a rucksack that we keep packed and ready for family walks. We add drinks and snacks each time but we keep essentials init so we are ready to go. We have things like spare socks for the kids, jumpers, scavenger hunts, our go find it cards and a basic first aid kit ready to go.
In our walking rucksack, we always have a few items for treating cuts and scrapes, they get used a lot! We always have a hand sanitiser, antiseptic cream or spray and some plasters. We also have something for insect bites and sun cream too.
Safe and Sound Health hand sanitisers
We were sent two different hand sanitisers to test. The antibacterial hand gel with cucumber and garden mint kills 99.99% bacteria and leaves your hands lightly scented. I love that it drys quickly and doesn’t leave your hands sticky. We were also sent the antibacterial hand foam which as well as killing 99.99% of germs also contains aloe vera. Again it left no trace behind on our hands.
Now more than ever, it’s important to be able to clean your hands on the go, especially before cleaning up a wound.

To prevent cuts and grazes becoming infected, we apply an antiseptic before a plaster. Safe and Sound Health antiseptic spray is perfect for keeping in your bag. It’s easy to apply, gentle on the skin and painless too. Perfect for children and grown-ups.
Safe and Sound Health Children’s fun plasters
We love these new children’s plasters from Safe and Sound Health. They come in really fun designs that my kids love. Choosing which design they want soon cheers my girls up. My youngest loves the rockets and dinosaurs and my eldest loves the mermaids, unicorns and princesses. I find it amazing how a simple plaster can stop a young child’s tears in seconds. Add to that the excitement of being able to choose which design they wand and you are really on to a winner.
Apart from the fun designs that appeal to children, these plasters are hypoallergenic and gentle on delicate skin. They are wash proof but not 100% waterproof so perhaps not the best idea before swimming. We’ve tried them on various grazes already and they work really well for covering the graze whilst we continue our walk.

Antiseptic spray is something I am missing in my first aid kit.Those designs on the plasters are lovely! My daughter is usually the accident prone one, so she would love anything mermaid based!
With two boisterous boys, we never go anywhere without our ‘on the go’ first aid kit. Antiseptic wipes, plasters for scrapes knees, and antihistamine cream for insect bites and nettles rash are the most used.
