Edgware Road is a great place to base yourself for a weekend in London. It’s just a few minutes from Hyde Park and Oxford Street! Step outside your hotel and you’ll find yourself surrounded by small cafés where locals linger over pastries, vibrant Middle Eastern bakeries scenting the air with warm spices, and independent shops that feel far removed from tourist-heavy high streets.
Start your weekend right with a walk in Hyde Park. This is one of London’s largest green spaces and a popular spot for runners, walkers and families. There are stunning gardens to walk around as well as lake side paths. It’s a great space to slow down and step a way from the hustle and business of London.
After your walk head back to Edgware Road to enjoy a coffee and some delicious food in one of the many independent cafes such as Mehmet Efendi where you can enjoy traditional Turkish desserts or PAUL Marble Arch which is a classic French bakery/cafe. You really can enjoy food from all around the world in this part of London.
After lunch you can explore some of the beautiful independent shops along Edgware Road. These include Nawras which sells luxury chocolates, stuffed dates and other Middle-Eastern treats. There are also Middle-Eastern supermarkets, stationary shops and a large Marks and Spencers.
Edgware Road is a great place to explore with it close proximity to Hyde Park, a rich history and vibrant Middle Eastern community. There are numerous places to stay including Líbere London which has single, double and triple rooms. It’s just a 2 minute walk from Edgware Road Station where you can get the tube to other areas of central London really easily.
In the evening there are lots of options on Edgware Road or you can hop on a tube to somewhere in Central London. Marble Arch and Oxford Street are also just a short walk away. If you can’t resist seeing a show whilst you are in London, Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square are just 15 minutes on the tube from Edgware Road Station.
For your second day in London, you might want to explore a little further away from Edgware Road especially if you want to tick off some of the main tourist attractions. You might visit Oxford Street for the full London shopping experience.
Within about 15- 20 minutes you can catch a tube and visit Buckingham Palace or Westminster (including Big Ben and the houses of Parliament). Other options include The British Museum, Madame Tussauds or London zoo.
As you can see, there are lots of different options for enjoying a weekend in London if you base your self on Edgware Road. You can combine staying in an area rich in history and a bit quieter (and more cost effective) than central London. At the same time, you have the option to hop on the tube and be in any of the central London areas that you wish to explore in next to no time.
