Camping ‘t Weergors is a gorgeous campsite in the Netherlands that we visited last year and loved so much that we are going back for another 3 nights this summer (as part of a 2 week trip). Find out why we love this family campsite and where to visit if you do choose to stay here.

Where is Camping ‘t Weergors?
Camping ‘t Weergors is a family campsite in south Holland. It’s south of Rotterdam but before you get to Zeeland.
It’s less than an hour’s drive from Stena Line Hook of Holland ferry port or just under a 4 hour drive from Euro Tunnel Calais.
It’s just a 10 minute walk from the nearest town which is Hellevoetsluis.

Pitches
There are loads of different types of pitches at Camping ‘t Weergors. All pitches are 95m2 or larger. The campervan pitches are at least 65m2.
You can choose dog-free or car-free or pitches that allow dogs and where you can park next to your pitch. There are luxury pitches with private bathroom facilities too.
We love how the campsite is full of smaller areas, with hedges to section off groups of pitches. We liked that it didn’t feel like a huge campsite despite the number of pitches there are here.
The campsite is huge but it really doesn’t feel it. There are loads of green spaces including a wildflower meadow with a barefoot walk at one side and a fishing pond and playgrounds at the other end.
Other accommodation at Camping ‘t Weergors
There are a lot of static caravans as well as camping pitches. Some of these looked like seasonal pitches and they weren’t all occupied despite it being late July on our trip.
There are lots of other rental accommodation options here if you don’t want to bring your tent or campervan.
There are glamping options, including some very cool geometric domes, chalets, lodges and a hiker’s cabin.

Facilities at Camping ‘t Weergors
There are loads of well-maintained facilities at this campsite. There are three sanitary blocks on site (toilets and showers). They were always spotlessly clean when we used them, light and airy and we never had to queue for long, if at all.
There are also 2 heated outdoor showers too. The indoor showers require a card that you purchase at reception and top with money for hot water. You need to use this for the showers and the washing-up area. We did leave ours behind once so make a note of the card number as ours was returned to reception and our money was still on the card too.
There are plenty of drink water taps around the site and the pitches with electricity are 6 or 10 Amp. I believe ours was 6 amps and we had no problems for our needs (mainly an electric cooler and charging phones).
There are loads of play areas around the campsite which my kids loved. There is a large one near the heart of the campsite with swings, a large slide/climbing frame and sand.
There is another big one out by the fishing pond with a zip wire and bouncy pillow. It’s a lovely short walk to this play area.
There are also numerous smaller play areas around the campsite.
The biggest attraction is the splash park which is loads of fun for kids and has seating around it for parents.
There is a small area with animals like goats and sheep on the farm. Just across the road from the campstie is a small dike and you can’t see what lies beyond. Climb over it though and you’ll often find horses (and the cycle path to Hellevoetsluis).
There are two charging points for electric vehicles.
There is a small laundry which you need to purchase coins from reception to use. We used it and I was happy with how much washing I could fit in a machine and how well it cleaned my clothes. You don’t need to take your own washing detergent either as it is all in the machines ready to go with the coin you purchase.
There is a small campsite shop with some basic supplies. We mostly used the shops for ice creams which are reasonably priced. There are food shops within walking distance. For a big food shop though, you can drive or cycle to Lidl, Jumbo or Aldi which are all a short distance away.
There is an onsite restaurant which we did think was expensive compared to the restaurants in Hellevoetsluis. You can also purchase drinks at the bar to enjoy in the courtyard while the kids enjoy the entertainment.
You can hire go-carts to ride around the site which is really fun.
On site activities at Camping ‘t Weergors
There is a children’s animation programme, 6 days a week in the summer school holidays. My kids loved the craft hour at the start of the day which included a bit of singing and dancing before hand (expect catchy Dutch songs for kids with actions).
There was always a theme to the programme each. It was Pippi Longstocking during our stay and the kids put on a show by the end of the week. Our kids were the only English speaking kids on the campsite so they only went along to the craft session but really enjoyed them. We had complaints on the days we left the campsite before the craft hour!
Sustainability at Camping ‘t Weergors
Camping ‘t Weergors have 200 solar panels, generating 20% of their own energy! They also have energy-saving bulbs, showers and taps. The whole point of the prepayment hot water cards is to encourage sensible water use too.
We love the wildflower meadow (it’s huge, not just a small patch of flowers) and the nature walk to the fishing pond.
Where to visit nearby
You have to walk in to Hellevoetsluis which is a town built around a harbour. It has a rich maritme history and we took a free tour of Nood Hinder, a lighthouse boat. There are also a few museums but we haven’t visited any of these yet.
We enjoyed walking around the harbour and to the lighthouse. There are lots of cafes and restaurants to choose from. We loved the pizzas at Restaurant Fortezza and suspect we’ll revisit this year.
There is also a small beach which has an amazing pirate ship play frame and a sand and water play area which my kids loved.
I can highly recommend a day trip to Kinderdijk windmills. This is an area that is a UNESCO world heritage site with boat trips along the river with windmills on both sides and various interactive museums where you can find out about the history.
Just a short drive away is this really cool bird hide, “Tig”. It’s only a very short walk (with no way to extend it that we could see) but it’s so cool inside and only a 10 minute drive from the campsite.
Eftling is an amazing fairy tale campsite that can’t be missed, it’s about a 1 hour drive from here. We chose to move to a nearer campsite as we booked two full days and they were full on! Find out more about Efteling here – Efteling review.
Our verdict
We loved our stay at Camping ‘t Weergors. The staff were friendly and spoke good English. We did learn a bit of Dutch before we visited which I think goes a long way to show you are willing. We found that the Dutch speak good English and are very welcoming.
Our kids loved all the play areas and the splash park. They also enjoyed the morning craft sessions and dancing with the kids club despite being the only English-speaking. We love that this site is huge but feels small and family-orientated. It’s well maintained and clean and a short walk from a small beach and a town to explore. It’s also a great base for many great attractions.
I think the fact we have booked another 3 nights here for 2023 shows how much we loved our stay.

Essentials for camping in the Netherlands
Camping in the Netherlands really isn’t that different to camping in the UK. I would recommend you pack a * converter for EHU use in Europe. We didn’t find we needed it on this site in 2022 but they are cheap and you never know if they change the connections.
If you are driving from the UK, you will need some * headlight deflectors and a UK sticker.
I’d also recommend a * camping fan and that’s about the only difference to the things we take camping in the UK.
