Camping with a baby

Tent with family sat outside including a baby

Collaborative post

A lot of us will be holidaying in the Uk this year, and many of us will choose to camo rather than stay in a hotel or holiday apartment. If you have a baby, and you haven’t taken them camping before, you may well be feeling apprehensive about doing so – you shouldn’t. Camping with a toddler or baby can be so much fun!

That being said, here are a few tips that will help to make your first camping trip with a baby or toddler go off without a hitch.

Have a practice sleep in the tent

Your little one is used to sleeping in their own bedroom, which means spending a few nights under canvas will be an unusual and potentially unsettling experience for them. That’s why it may be worth spending some time sleeping in the tent while you’re still at home, just so they can get used to the change before you don’t have the option to go back in the house when things get tough!

Make it comfortable

Making your tent as comfortable as possible with an air mattress or, maybe even a toddler sleeping mat, will also help your little one sleep more easily in the tent environment when you’re off camping. If you have a very young baby, then, if you don’t already have one, you may want to buy Venicci moses basket, which will keep them sage, comfy and secure in the tent.

Don’t go too far

When it comes to your first camping trip, it’s a good idea not to stray too far from home. There is always a chance your little one will hate the whole thing, and being able to get home fast when they’re tantrumming or whatever, will be a real godsend. Once they’re used to the experience, you can start exploring further afield.

Pack more than you think they’ll need

When it comes to diapers, wipes and other baby hygiene essentials, you should always pack more than you need, especially if you plan to camp somewhere that isn’t close to amenities, just in case you run out, which I’m sure you’ll agree, would be a nightmare!

Bring their favourite blankie

Bringing your baby’s favourite blankie and whatever either toys they prefer is a good way to make them feel a little more comfortable and secure in the tent, and obviously, it will help to keep them entertained should the weather not be great or you need a break, too.

Pack well

When you’re camping with a baby or toddler, you really need to pack for every eventuality. You don’t want your child to get too hot, wet or cold. That means packing wellies and other waterproofs, along with a decent coat, sweaters, and t-shirts and shorts, as well as long trousers, basically, cover all eventualities, and that means packing a lightweight and slightly heavier sleeping bag for them too!

Plan lots of activities

If you want to have the most fun as possible, plan as many activities during your trip as possible, From walking in the woods to visiting the local zoo, the more you do, the more you’ll love it, as long as you don’t pack in so much that they get overtired!

Have fun!
