Child-free weekends are a rare and precious thing once you become a parent. You could use it to do DIY around the home or you could enjoy a change of scene and spend time quality together without the usual parenting responsibilities.
If you are lucky enough to be planning a child-free weekend away, then I’d encourage you to consider booking a trip to the North West of England. There are loads of Family days out in the North West but there are also loads of places that are great to visit without the kids too.
Perhaps you’ll decide to visit Chester and enjoy a mix of shopping and eating out or maybe you’ll opt for a more rural getaway to the Lake District where you can enjoy stunning scenic walks as well as enjoying some fantastic food too.

Then there are cities like Liverpool and Manchester where you can partake in a spot of shopping or visit a museum or gallery. They also have a multitude of places for eating out, bars, cinema and theatre. You’ll be spoilt for choices for ways to spend your time.
Another thing you need to consider is where you’ll stay. For something truly romantic, luxury glamping with Unique hideaways is a fantastic option for your weekend away. There are so many gorgeous and unique glamping locations across the UK to choose from. Glamping is a fantastic way to spend time with your partner. You can enjoy some much needed peace and quiet as well as staying somewhere out of the ordinary.
If you choose to go glamping in Cheshire then have a look at Lazy Bear for a dream hideaway in a special location. It’s a Nordic cabin that sleeps 2 and has a hot tub! The spot is stunning with woodlands and lake views on one side and open fields on the other.

You’ll truly be able to switch off on your visit as there is no wi-fi or electricity. There is an undercover outdoor kitchen with a gas hob, barbecue and pizza stone. The bathroom is in another cabin 100 yards away and includes a compost toilet and a hot shower.
The cabin is just 20 minutes from Chester if you want to do some shopping or sightseeing. You could start by walking around the walls of Chester which will give you a flavour of the city followed by exploration of the charming shops.

There are loads of places to enjoy a meal out including plenty of interesting independents. A relatively new place to enjoy a meal is Chester market which is a fantastic food hall with lots of different food kitchens to choose from. After dinner, why not enjoy a trip to the cinema or theatre at Storyhouse.
You’re also less than a mile from Ness Botanical gardens which is a beautiful place to visit and take a walk. Other walking options include the Burton Meer Wetlands or along the beach at Thurstaton.
If you’d like to head further north, then glamping in Cumbria is a must. The Lake District is one of my favourite parts of the Uk to visit. The scenery is stunning and you have loads of options for places to walk, and cosy pubs and quaint villages to explore.
If you’re looking for a stay like no other, then have a look at Tawny Owl Treehouse, a beautiful retreat with an alfresco bathtub, a quirky kitchen with everything you need, and large windows to really make the most of the stunning green surroundings.
The Wrens Nest is a cabin in a woodland paradise with a woodfired hot tub. There’s a small kitchen, double bed, TV and shower room. The perfect place to retreat to after a day exploring the lakes or perhaps, you’ll never want to leave this haven!

If you do choose to venture out, there are loads of places to visit in the Lake District. There are lots of walks nearby and you’re only a short drive away from popular towns Keswick, Penrith or Carlisle. The Rheged centre is a fantastic option if it rains. You can explore the gallery, and independent shops and enjoy a meal too. There is even a cinema.
Keswick is a favourite place of mine to spend a few hours browsing the shops, enjoying a spot of lunch (the burgers in The round are amazing!) and wandering by Derwent water. If you fancy more of a challenge, I can recommend climbing Lattrig. See the full route here – Latrigg walk from Keswick.
So where will you spend your next child-free weekend? I hope I’ve given you some inspiration for the perfect weekend getaway for you.
