It’s time to share all our December adventures with you today (sorry we are already 5 days into the new year). What a lovely festive month we had. I think F is at the perfect age for Christmas. She really understood and got very excited for the big day. We had lots of festive family fun and I know she enjoyed lots more at school.
On the first day of the month, our elf returned. This is our second year doing Elf on the shelf and F loves it. We have kept it simple so far, mostly just moving him around the house. We also did a book advent calendar for the third year. Again she loved this and of course, we had a chocolate advent calendar which I think was her favourite part.
We started the month visiting Chester to watch The Snowman tour. It was a really lovely afternoon. We had front row seats at Chester Cathedral where we watched the snowman and another animation, all accompanied by a live orchestra. It was truly magical and my best blogging opportunity to date.
The following weekend we took the girls to see Father Christmas. We chose a farm where we took them last year. It’s a lovely experience where groups of children (and their parents) write letters to Father Christmas and make reindeer food before going in to see him. He then tells the children all about the elves and their summer holiday fun before each child goes up individually to talk to him and get a gift. F loved it and I even managed to get a rare photo of the two of them smiling with father Christmas.
We had one final festive day out on the 23rd. We head to Dunham Massey where we followed their Rudolf trail and failed to spot any real deer. We did get to see the gardens lit up mid-afternoon as they were testing the lights for the evening Christmas lights event. Obviously, as it wasn’t dark we didn’t get the full effect but even so, it was lovely.
Christmas Eve was a quiet day at home as E was unwell and we still had lots to do. F was so excited about Christmas. Thankfully E was a little better Christmas day and enjoyed opening her presents. We hosted Christmas this year. We had my family on Christmas day and my husband’s family on boxing day. After that, it was back to work for me. Just one day mind, before spending the long weekend visiting family.
On New Year’s Eve, we took the girls to Eureka for the day. It’s a fantastic children’s museum. We enjoyed a short Christmas play as well as winter sensory play. Of course, we also enjoyed playing in all the regular areas too.
I’ve loved joining #myfamilyadventures this last 6 months. It’s the perfect post for the direction I want to take this post in so I’ll be joining in this year and hopefully having 12 months worth to look back at this time next year. If you are interested in all our days our and holidays from 2017, I shared my favourite family days out 2017 on Tuesday.
