Halloween, swimming and preschool activities #littleloves

It’s been a while since I joined in with little loves, let’s be honest, it’s been a while since I blogged at all. All I will say is the four month sleep regression is real and sucks! we are starting to get a few good nights again so I hope to blog more. No promises though.

We had a lovely holiday in the lake district last week and I have lots of photos to sort through and I hopefully will write a blog post or two about that. Time to jump in with all the things we have loved since we got home from our holidays last weekend.

We have a lot of children’s books in our house. We’ve got them on shelves in our living room and in both girl’s rooms. In my eldest room we have this lovely bookcase that shows off the covers perfectly for children. I love to changes the books around for her too. At the moment it’s full of autumn and Halloween books.

I bought this book new this year and my eldest loves it. The cover and the last page  glow in the dark too. It’s a lovely rhyming book that encourages counting to 10.

Since I’ve been going to bed so early of late I can’t think of anything I’ve watched since the last episode of cold feet (which I loved). I think I probably watch more you tube than TV at the moment. I’m enjoying watching The Michalaks in Australia as well as vlogs from Write like no one is watching, This mama life and Mrs Meldrum.

Talking of you tube. My eldest introduced me to dough disco this week. This is something she does at preschool and she kept talking about dancing with play dough. She requested it so much I ended up asking her key worker at preschool about it. She told me it was dough disco and that it was good for pre-writing and is done in a lot of early years settings. A quick internet search and I soon found some you tube videos. She really gets in to it and it is lovely to watch her enjoying something so much.

I also watch our littlest roll from back to front last week for the first time. She has rolled from front to back once as well a few weeks before.

My two were both dressed as pumpkins for our friends Halloween party on Saturday. I never really dressed my oldest in tutus when she was a baby but I loved this one on the little one. I might have to get her a christmas one too.

My eldest telling everyone about trick or treating. I nearly didn’t take her as I was on my own with the two of them that evening but I’m so glad I did as she loved it.

I’ve heard the ladybird chatting away lots about her swimming lesson too this week. She had her first lesson 2 weeks ago which didn’t go so well. There were a few tears and the instructor had to carry her round the pool for most of it. Afterwards she declared she was never having swimming lessons again. This week when I took her I could tell she remembered not enjoying it as she went very quiet when we got to the changing room and took a lot of encouragement to sit on the edge of the pool ready to get in. By the time I had gone back through the changing rooms to the viewing area though she was already smiling and kicking away. Afterwards she continued singing the firework song they had been doing and chatted about the lesson for the rest of the day.

I made this very basic calendar and weather chart for the ladybird this week. I’m keen to encourage her interests and help her learning where I can. She is always saying she did things or will do things on Tuesday or last year etc so she loves this (they have something very similar at her preschool).

And lastly….

It’s been a while since I joined in with little loves and any regular readers may remember that my eldest daughter was struggling  with becoming a big sister. She changed from a confident and happy little girl to one who was super clingy with me, shy and quiet and she was regularly trying to hurt our littlest. I’m pleased to say that she seems to be back to her old self. The change seemed to coincide with moving up to the preschool room at her nursery. She no longer crys and clings to me when I leave her in a morning, she chats none stop and you can just see how happy she is again. Obviously like any three year old she gets upset or cross and will occasionally still hit or pinch the little one but I would say it is much more normal sibling jealousy now and usually when she is over tired.

Ahhh what a lovely weather calendar for her. Bet she loves it. Love the costumes too. It was a great trick or treat weather this year. The kids had such a great time. Don’t worry about blogging when you are trying to catch zzz’s we all will be here when you are ready to jump in and out of it again. Bet it’s tough at the beginning. I am linking last week’s #littleloves as I forgot to add it to the linky while I was away and this week we have all been super sick. Not nice to share. 🙂 Happy Weekend ahead.

Yes Halloween weather was great. Tonight it’s raining and our local firework display was on! Sorry you’ve all been sick. I hope you are all on the mend.

I love the weather calendar. It’s great to have you join back in and also that your eldest has returned to her lovely self. I guess as adults it’s so difficult to comprehend how their little minds work. Have a lovely weekend. Thanks for joining in this week’s #littleloves

Thanks. Yes it’s hard to understand exactly what goes on in their minds but gaining a sibling is a big change for a 3 year old. I guess we expected some problems and tried to prepare her but she was affected more than we thought. Just relieved she’s happy and confident again.

The weather calendar idea is great! So easy too! I totally get the sibling thing, my daughter was pretty horrid to her brother when he came along and I struggled immensely, I never thought I would see the day when she would be nice! It’s so hard parenting and throwing in huge adjustments for little ones is doubly hard. So glad it’s got easier and glad your back sharing your Little Loves.. have a wonderful weekend xx

Thank you. I expected some sibling jealousy but not to the extent we got or her complete change in behaviour. It’s so hard as on one hand I would feel bad that she was obviously so sad but on the other I feel protective to the tiny one. Big relief she seems back to normal.

That calendar is really lovely. We do dough disco with my reception class at school and they love it. Its so nice that you carry on with her interests and learning at home too. Hope you carry on getting some good nights sleep! x #littleloves

Thank you. If I’m honest I enjoy doing activities with her almost as much as her. She’s only in preschool two full days so we have lots of time to fill.

Love the selection of seasonal books you have. I also love the Michalaks, and their Australia vlogs have been amazing!

The calendar idea is really glad – I’m super enthusiastic about promoting learning outside of school. My son doesn’t start preschool until January, but we do lots of learning at home and he absolutely loves it! I love that you DIY’ed the calendar – although we aren’t at that stage yet, I have purchased one with all the dates and weather and seasons and such on it to use with my little one next year.

Your kids look super cute in their Halloween clothes. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I love the pumpkins! O dressed as a ninja (his choice) and poor little Q didn’t have a costume… His first Halloween! But we were away in Disneyland for the week leading up to Halloween so I’m calling lack of time… x
