The best rhyming bedtime stories
What will you dream of tonight? Frances Stickley, Anuska Allepuz #

This is a beautiful rhyming story with gorgeous illustrations. It’s perfect for bedtime as it’s about possible things to dream about. Will it be sailing on the tail of a whale? or a midnight balloon ride? It’s full of magical adventures. I love reading this book to my own daughters.

The night pirates, Peter Harris, Deborah Allwright

My children still love this bedtime story and we’ve read it many, many times over the years. We love the rhymes and the story about a group of girl pirates who steal the front of a little boy’s house to disguise their ship. The little boy tags along on an amazing adventure. Once he’s home and safely back in bed, no one will know the adventure even happened or will they?

Ten minutes to bed little unicorn, Rhiannon Fielding, Chris Chatterton

This is another of my girls’ favourite bedtime stories. They love unicorns so this book was always going to be an instant hit but it’s also a lovely bedtime story. We love the way this book counts down from 10 as naughty little unicorn avoids bedtime. My children love all the adventures she goes on and I love the fact she’s fast asleep in bed by the end of the story. The illustrations are super cute too.

The perfect hug, Joanna Walsh, Judi Abbot

This is a really cute rhyming story about one little panda’s search for the perfect hug. Follow him through the story as he tries them all, big and small before finding the perfect hug was under his nose all along. Such a cute rhyming story for young children to enjoy before their bedtime cuddle.

Wake up do, Lydia Lou! Julia Donaldson, Karen George

We love Julia Donaldson’s books in this house. This is one of her lesser-known books but we adore it and it’s perfect for bedtime too. Lydia Lou is sleeping when a ghost sneaks into her home and tries to wake her. The ghost has to recruit lots of friends to try and wake her. I won’t ruin it for you but we love the surprise ending.
