Like many of you, this year I’ve found myself becoming more and more eco-conscious. Single-use plastic has been one of the things I am trying to tackle. It’s a huge problem though. Have you ever sat down and thought about how much single-use plastic is in your home? Plastic bottles are a big culprit so I was excited to try out the new SodaStream Spirit that I have been sent to review. Although we were sent this in exchange for a review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I still remember SodaStreams from when I was a child. I always wanted one but we never did get one. What child doesn’t dream of having the ability to make fizzy drinks anytime they want? I was thrilled to discover that SodaStream now focuses on sparkling water, all the taste of fizzy drinks without the sugar. I love the idea of being able to make my own sparkling flavoured water at home any time I want.

SodaStream Spirit review
The first thing I noticed when our SodaStream Spirit arrive was is how neat and compact the machine is. It’s a lightweight and freestanding unit that doesn’t require electricity or batteries. This means you can put your SodaStream anywhere you like without worrying about sockets etc.

The SodaStream Spirit instead carbonates water using a slim, tall carbon dioxide canister that simply slots into the back of the machine and can be replaced. Each carbon dioxide cannister can make approximately 60 litres of sparkling water which is 30 plastic bottles saved from going to landfill. The gas canisters can be refilled and exchanged directly with SodaStream.
To make a bottle of sparkling water simply fill the reusable bottle to the marked line with tap water. Put the bottle into the SodaStream Spirit and then simply press the button at the top and hold for 2 seconds, repeat 3-5 times. Remove the bottle from the machine and you have sparkling water ready to drink.

You can drink the water as it is or you can flavour it with SodaStream syrups such as zero traditional lemonade and diet tonic. We’ve tried these two flavours and we like them both. My husband has used the diet tonic as a mixer and is happy with the taste of his drinks. I really enjoyed the zero sugar traditional lemonade. I’ve also used the sparkling water to make drinks with everyday cordials and squash with great success. Sparkling elderflower cordial is delicious but simple sparkling orange is also a great refreshing drink.

So far we have been very happy with our SodaStream spirit. We are enjoying great-tasting, low-calorie drinks and reducing our single-use plastic waste a little in the process. Click here to find out how much it is currently on sale for.
I’d love to hear from you in the comments either if you’ve ever owned a SodaStream or if you’re thinking about buying one.

Oh you have brought back childhood memories! I always wanted a SodaStream but it wasn’t meant to be. Like you, we are really trying to cut down on single use plastics so this is a great tip! I wonder if they do Vimto?
You can use the sparkling water to make Vimto using the usual cordial. I always wanted one too!
