How do you make your kitchen spotlessly clean? You will have the best results if you use a system where you work through each step of the cleaning process until the kitchen is sparkling clean. How do you do that? We have the process here for you, and if you follow along, your kitchen will be clean in no time.
Your kitchen won’t clean itself, so let’s get started.
Sweep Everywhere
You want to start by sweeping or vacuuming up all the kitchen first and dust. Clean the floors, wipe down the counters and make the kitchen as clean as possible using only dry methods. This will make the rest of the cleaning process a whole lot easier, and we suggest doing this kind of cleaning as you cook or work in the kitchen.
You should be careful about sweeping so hard that you push dust up into the air. That is not what you want in your kitchen. Use soft and gentle motions and consider opening windows to ventilate the room as you clean it. If you have any mats in the kitchen, take them outside and bang them out, trying to force the dust to blow away from you as you do it. You can also vacuum the mats afterwards to ensure you get out as much dust as possible.
Rinse Everything
The next step is rinsing, and you can rinse any areas that are hard surfaces, like tiles, counters, and sinks. Any metal, stone, or tile should be rinsed down, but not wooden cabinets or any other wooden components. Those will need to be cleaned in a different way so that water does not seep in and damage the wood.
You can clean tiles, counters, and other hard surfaces using a clean cloth and warm soapy water. This kills a lot of germs, removes crime, and makes the hard surfaces look shinier and cleaner. This will get rid of most of the stuff that is stuck to these hard surfaces, but not all of it. Remember that rinsing down is just the second step of the process. You don’t have to make everything look perfectly clean with this stuff, but you do want to allow some of the tougher and grimier spots to soak with the rinsing step.
Wash Dishes
While everything is soaking, you can start on the dishes. These can be soaking from the start of the rinse step, and you should let them soak for a few minutes before cleaning them. That way, they will clean more easily, and the grime will put up less resistance. You can get through dishes faster with this method. Hot water is also better at cleaning grease and grime off than cold water is, so keep that in mind.
It is helpful to use kitchen gloves while you wash the dishes, as this will protect your hands. If you are only doing the dishes, this might not be such a big deal, but if you are trying to clean all of the kitchen at once, then wearing gloves to protect your hands is essential.
Scrub Down the Kitchen
The next step is to scrub everything. Now that it is all wet and soaking with water or cleaner, you should scrub it all clean. Start from the top and work your way down, missing nothing.
Clean the outside of the appliances, the countertops, the floors, the sink, and all food preparation areas. Also use dry wiping techniques on all wood surfaces, like cupboards and molding.
Use the right scrubbing tools for each surface. If you are cleaning metal surfaces like the sink, you may be able to use steel wool, which isn’t scratchy enough to leave marks behind the sink. For tiles, using a stiff brush or a scrubbing ad is usually a good choice, and the scrubbing pad works well for countertops and stove surfaces as well.
You want to use the right tool for each surface, as this will make your job easier. If you are used to using a clean cloth to scrub at all surfaces, you may be giving yourself too much work. A slightly more abrasive tool like a scrubbing pad or scrubbing brush will be a good alternative. It will require less force to get rid of the tough grime.
Clean Appliances
The next step is the hardest and potentially the longest. You will need to clean your appliances fully. This may require specialized cleaning techniques and tools. Let’s give you a few pieces of advice to handle this part of the kitchen.
For the microwave, just warm a glass of water inside for about a minute to two and then wipe down the inside. For the fridge, pull out all the shelves and use a scrubbing pad to clean the entire inner surface. For the oven, use oven cleaner or a mixture of water and vinegar. With these methods, you will clean faster and more efficiently and have less trouble with these often tough spots.
Sanitise Everything
The final step in kitchen cleaning– whether you do it yourself or have professionals do it for you- is to sanitise. You don’t want to skip this, because with the kitchen, hygiene and sanitation are so important. If you can kill the germs in your kitchen, then you will have a safer space to prepare food and you will be less likely to encounter foodborne illnesses.
Take time to use an effective cleaning spray that kills germs on contact and doesn’t smell too bad. Coat the surfaces that you touch often and that food touches as well. Make sure these are treated carefully and then cleaned up. Sanitising spray can be unpleasant to taste, so once you have sprayed down, be sure to wipe it up.
With this process, your kitchen will be clean and sanitary and ready to use again. You can do this process as often as necessary, but if you have a plan for how to tackle kitchen cleaning, there will be less wasted time and better overall results.
