Fireworks, reading and forest school crafts #littleloves

It’s been a bit of a mixed week here. E is still full of cold and coughing. The nights are still worse than ever (last nights was the best in a while), I’m exhausted and full of cold myself. On top of this, I’ve a lot on with work and family stuff, not to mention a lot of blog work that I have taken on. On the other hand, we’ve had some great fun. Forest school, crafts and fireworks. Read on to find out more.

I actually found a little time to read a couple of articles in this month’s The simple things magazine. I loved this article on Lights, fire and festivity. There was another article on reading and in particular reading mindfully. I miss reading but I’m so tired, I struggled to read these articles so a novel is out of the question.

Last night I shared a photo of my daughters’ favourite books on Instagram. These are mostly the books that F has been requesting at bedtime. Charlie Crow in the snow is F’s choice of library book from school this week. Funny thing is, she handed it me and said: “read the blurb on the back” which is not a phrase I use and I can’t really imagine her teacher saying it so I have no idea where she learnt that!

The fireworks on Saturday night. I love fireworks but F is not keen on the loud bangs. She had pretty much said all week that she didn’t want to go see any fireworks. Then she came home from school on Friday talking about the firework display we were going to and telling me all the rules about not touching fireworks etc. They’d clearly learnt a lot about fireworks that day. In the end, we drove to a nearby area where there is a very big display on and parked in a side street to watch them. E slept through them in the car and F got very upset at first but as soon as I put her ear defenders on she loved watching them. The display lasted 20 minutes and she stood and enjoyed them all. Perhaps next year we’ll make it to a bonfire and display properly.

I took F to forest school on Sunday morning. She loved it as usual. I love how excited she gets on the way there and how she starts off the session shy but by the end of it she won’t shut up. It was obviously firework themed and I helped her to make a sparkler, a rocket (vinegar and baking powder so it actually took off), a lantern and a toffee apple. She also did firework painting and we took part in “Forest school, mini Olympics”.

I’ve not actually worn this yet but last Friday this top arrived from Boden. I bought it as they had sent me a voucher for my birthday (not blogging related) and I had a good discount code too. I find Boden great for offers and discounts and I usually end up getting the kids things but this time I treated myself. I can’t wait to start wearing it in December.

Sorry, can’t think of anything for here this week.

And lastly…

We’ve got a busy weekend ahead with a family party tomorrow and on Sunday I’ve been invited along to Manchester’s ideal homes Christmas show. I can’t wait! I’m guessing I can get away with wearing my new top sooner than I thought too.

Sounds like you’ve had a lovely week despite being ill, worn out and very busy. I think I’ll be doing the opposite of you next year in terms of fireworks and instead of heading to an organised display like we did this year, we’ll be the ones parking up nearby and watching that way. This year’s was pretty horrendous in terms of their lack of organisation, luckily the little one enjoyed it though. I love that Boden top, they do such lovely things. Hope you’re having a great weekend x

I do love that Boden top! I get loads for the girls when they have offers on but never treat myself. I need to change that! 😉 xx
