I’ve enjoyed photography for many years now but since E was born in June, I have used my “big” camera (a canon 400d) a lot less. With all the things that we take out for the day with two young children, I rarely want to take my DSLR too.
I taught myself to shoot manually and edit my raw files some time ago. I’m hoping that joining in with the home life project once a month will be a fun way to pick up my camera again. Not only that but I’ll have documented how our family changes over the year.
Sitting down to edit these photos already makes me glad I took part. As well as the images below, I have a number of lovely photos of my girls that I possibly wouldn’t have taken without taking part in this challenge. I dug out my neglected tripod and I tried out this month’s creative challenge which was the night time windows.
I’m not 100% happy with these photos. particularly with the editing. It’s fair to say I struggled with low light photography and I definitely felt rusty shooting manually.
The photos are a pretty good representation of family life right now. They show a couple of my youngest (E, 7 months today) favorite toys and where she is with weaning. They also show my eldest (F, 3 and a half years) love of colouring, books and helping me (in this case make pizza).
This Saturday started at 5:50 am but I was also up at 12:30 and 3:30 am feeding E. It was a foggy and wet day. We spent the morning at home doing a few household chores and getting the weekly food shop delivered. In the afternoon I took F to her first panto (I didn’t take my camera and no photos were allowed in the panto anyway). We were out rather longer than I expected so once home it was a rush to get tea on the table (homemade pizza) and get the girls to bed. Consequently, I nearly didn’t take photos including the night time window challenge. We did it, though. Both were in bed asleep by 8:15 pm.
7am – snoozing in my bed.
8 am – Porridge fingers for breakfast.
8:15 am Reading books with F.
9 am – Finally I get my shower, 3 hours after getting up.
11 am – Bouncing in the jumperoo. E loves this. The photo is a little blurry but because it is mostly E, I like that it represents her moving none stop.
12 pm – Waiting for lunch and playing with her teether.
5:15 pm – F helping to make pizzas.
5:40 pm – We think this picture is E’s first time instigating peek a boo with us.
6 pm – this is a star wars colouring book that was a Christmas gift to my husband. He’s given it to F who has been using it a lot even though she has no idea what it is!
