Hopster review and giveaway (closed)

I mentioned the Hopster app in my Christmas gift guide for 3-5 year olds. Well, today I’m back to tell you more about it and give you your chance to win a 12 month subscription.  We’ve been testing it out for a few weeks now so I thought it was about time I told you all about it.

Hopster is an educational and fun app for children aged 2-6. It includes tv shows, music, games, audio and e books and so much more. The app is available for android and apple devices and costs £3.99 a month. The app is very user friendly and my 4 year old finds it really simple to use. It doesn’t matter that she can not read the text such as “Shows” as the different sections have unique illustrations and a voice also announces the section as you scroll through.Hopster review

The tv shows include many of my daughter’s favourites such as Ben and Holly, The Gruffalo, Max and Ruby and Postman Pat. In fact there are over a 1000 episodes to choose from. The best part is there are no ads in the app at all. The app can also be accessed on smart tvs, although there are not as many features in this mode. It does mean that the tv shows can be viewed on-demand on a tv as well as on tablets and mobiles.

There is also a music section with over 100 songs and nursery times. These include some festive ones and even some in French. Each song is accompanied by a cartoon to really engage your little one. My two love the festive ones in particular at the moment.

The games are not only educational but also fun which is so important for this age group. My daughter particularly enjoys the phonics based “Alphabet hotel”. There are other games such as math games. I feel that a lot of the apps are better suited to the preschool age group and are too young for F (who is in in reception). However the phonics one is great at the moment.

The books area is another favourite area. The books are in conjunction with Harper Collins and are a mixture ebooks with audio as well as audio books (without the accompanying text and illustrations). There are also a few book videos where a presenter reads the books, much like the bedtime stories we see on children’s tv. Again there are currently some Christmas books so I love that the app is kept fresh with new seasonal content.

As well as these main areas there is also a drawing section and currently a Christmas section with an advent calendar and all the other seasonal content in one easy to find location. The downloads section can be used to store favourite episodes to watch when streaming is not possible. I can see this being a great feature for travelling.

Overall we are loving using this app. You can try it for 7 days free currently and even once you sign up at £3.99 a month there is no long contract, you can literally cancel whenever you like.

Now it’s your chance to win a 12 month subscription. One lucky winner will be given a code to allow them to use the app for 12 months, free of charge. If you would like to be in with a chance of winning, just complete the Gleam widget instructions. Good luck.
