How is it Christmas day in 5 days? Seriously where is this month going? I don’t know about you but I still have a lot of preparation to do. Luckily I finish work at the end of today and my husband is already off work. This means 4 days with two of us at home to watch the kids and get organised. Ideally, I want to get it all finished before F finishes school on Friday so that we can enjoy some festive fun over the weekend. Here’s what I still have left to sort out. Perhaps it will act as a checklist for things that you need to get organised too.
Finish delivering our Christmas cards
Oh ok, some of them still need writing too! I’ve posted all the ones that need posting but I still need to write and hand deliver the ones for our neighbours and also all the ones for F’s reception class (all 30 of them!).
Wrap all the presents
I’m still waiting for a couple of deliveries but most of our gifts are here. I keep meaning to wrap a few each night but it never happens. I’m definitely going to try and do them whilst F is at school Thursday/Friday. Luckily I don’t mind wrapping presents although perhaps I might not be feeling like that after wrapping all the girl’s presents!
Plan and buy all the food
We usually online food shop but we’ve decided to go and do the shop in person on Thursday. We still haven’t decided what we are cooking on Boxing day yet. We are having my family over on Christmas day and cooking beef with all the trimmings. Boxing day my husband’s family are coming to us and we really need to decide what to cook. No doubt it will be another roast.
I’ve not found time to bake a Christmas cake this year but at playgroup, on Friday I enjoyed eating Mincemeat cake so I think I’ll try this Mary Berry recipe this weekend. F asked to bake cookies for her teachers so yesterday afternoon after her Christmas production we baked Gingerbread biscuits for her teachers, teaching assistants and E’s Nursery staff.
Set the Christmas dinner table.
The house needs a really good tidy in preparation for the big day. Ideally, we’ll set some of the table and prepare some of the food on Christmas Eve. Both girls are at a lovely age for enjoying Christmas and I don’t want to miss out on enjoying the magic of Christmas with them because we are too busy stressing over the food.
I’ve picked up some crackers and we will be setting the table quite simply. I was sent this gorgeous collection of baubles that work great on wine glasses or as napkin holders. The designs are beautiful and I know it is a little late for buying more Christmas decorations but they are part of a much wider range of home accessories from hedgehog canvas bag. I love the beautiful designs and they are all made in the UK. My favourite has to be this hedgehog canvas bag.
Of course, on top of all the Christmas extras, I’ve still got a mountain of washing and ironing to plough through and a couple of blog posts that need to be written and published before Christmas. I’m sure it will all get done in time but let’s hope it doesn’t involve too many late nights.
What about you are you ready for Christmas?
