You might have noticed that we enjoy travelling. Since we’ve had children though we’ve stuck to the UK. We’ve decided that next year we are going to take them abroad for the first time. I’m sure that this will be the start of travelling outside the UK more but we definitely won’t be stopping exploring the UK anytime soon. There are still so many places in the UK I’d like to see. I thought I’d share today some of the places we’d like to travel to with our kids in the future. Some of them may be in the next few years, others maybe when they’re a lot older and some are very expensive so who knows if they’ll happen. This wouldn’t be a dream list without them though.
Europe
First up, let’s start close to home. I’d love to pack up a campervan and travel around Europe. There are so many places we’d like to visit like Scotland and all the islands. We’d also like to see a lot of France so a camping tour would be amazing. We visited Paris many years ago now but I’d love to take the kids. There is so much more of France that I suspect a French camping trip might be our first family trip abroad. We plan to take the kids to Disneyland Paris once they’re both old enough to appreciate it. Of course, when they’re much older a Disney Florida holiday would be an absolute dream.
Spain is another country I’d love to explore more. I’ve visited Majorca and Menorca as a teenager but I’d love to experience Barcellona and visit San Sebastian in the Basque Country. The Bilbao Guggenheim is on both mine and my husband’s list of places to visit.
I’d love to try a farm stay in Austria. I think this would be a lovely break for an outdoor-loving family like ours. Holland and Amsterdam may not be obvious family holiday choices but I’ve read a lot about the fairy tale land of Eftling, enough to know that my girls would love it.
Greece is another place I’d like to try, particularly Rhodes and perhaps Island hopping around the many Islands.
Scandinavia is high on my list although it’s got a reputation for being expensive so I’m not sure how much of it we’ll see. I’d love to see the Norweigan Fords, Copenhagen, Legoland and if we’re really dreaming the Ice hotel. Iceland is another place I’d love to see one day. Taking the kids to see Santa in Lapland is another dream trip of a lifetime.
We got married in Tuscany and it stole my heart. I’d love to go back to Italy and see a lot more of this beautiful country. I’d love to see Rome, Venice, Sorrento and the Italian Lakes as well as visit Puglia, Sardinia and Cinque Terra. There’s loads of things to do in Tuscany.
Further afield
My husband would love to visit Japan one day. We’d both love to go to New Zealand and perhaps some areas of Australia. America doesn’t have a big draw for me (other than Florida) and perhaps New York and San Francisco. Perhaps once we’ve seen more of Europe, long-haul destinations will start to have more appeal but for now I’m looking forward to exploring Europe.
