Lady Pancake, Sir French Toast and the case of the stinky stench is a fun children’s book. Written by Josh Funk and illustrated by Brendan Kearney.
We’ve been reading this book for a few weeks now and it seems to have had a lasting impression on F.
Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast are on holiday at Marshmallow coast. However, their holiday is interrupted by Inspector Croissant who has discovered a horrible stench coming from the fridge.
These three set off across Salsa Ravine looking for the source of the smell. Their journey takes them through places such as Applesauce River and Casserole Cliff. At the back of the book is a fold out map of all the places they visit which F enjoys looking at.
The story is written in rhyme which has a good rhythm to it. There are a few words in it that F wasn’t familiar with such as nefarious and I switch vacation to holiday since it doesn’t affect the rhyme. We like the illustrations too which are colourful and cartoon like.
The source of the smell is finally uncovered – long since forgotten fruit cake. They set about cleaning up the cake (wash and a shave) to restore her (after all they tell us fruit cake never goes stale). Finally, the stinky stench is gone and Inspector Croissant has solved his first case.
My daughter loves listening to The case of the stinky stench. The story is fun and includes word play that adults and children alike will enjoy. The illustrations are bright, colourful and fun too.
