How are we halfway through March already? I’m a little late with my monthly round-up of our adventures as I was writing my Mother’s day gift guide for you. The snow that arrived at the end of January didn’t stick around for more than a day or so of February. As far as winter months go, February has been a good one. This month included the February half-term holiday for my eldest and we enjoyed some unseasonably mild and sunny days for the entire holiday. Consequently, we’ve enjoyed plenty of outdoor adventures this month.
After enjoying our trip to York without the girls in January, we decided to take them for a few days in half term. We had an amazing few days exploring one of my favourite cities. The girls loved exploring and playing in the many different museums and attractions we took them to. So far I’ve only had time to write up a review of one of the attractions we visited, York’s chocolate story. I have a blog post coming up in the next week or so, packed full of ideas for things to do with kids in York so look out for that.
The rest of the half term break and weekends were spent at home. As usual, we made the most of our National Trust membership and visited four properties this month. We visited Biddulph grange which we’ve not been to very much as it’s not the most pushchair friendly but our toddler is walking more and more so we left the pushchair at home and had a lovely afternoon exploring.
I spent a lovely afternoon with just my eldest at Hare hill when it reopened after the winter. I also took both girls to Quarry bank mill one day. They always have such fantastic school holiday activities on and this time was no different. The girls really enjoyed a short play they put on and the craft table. We also had a lovely trip to Dunham Massey with my mum. We took her to see the deer but for the first time ever, we didn’t see any deer.
Finally, we finished half term with a day out to Beeston castle, somewhere we’ve never been before. It was nice to visit somewhere different. The girls loved the den building area and making clay hedgehogs. We enjoyed a walk up to the castle remains where we were rewarded with stunning views over Cheshire.
This year I’ll also be using these monthly roundups as a way to record how we get on with #12familyadventures which is my latest collaboration with Thimble and twig. We’ve picked 12 family adventures that we’d like to try this year. I don’t know about you but there are some things that we want to do but yet we never get round to doing. Read to the bottom to find the challenges we’ve chosen. We’d love you to join in too.
The challenge for February’s #12familyadventures was geocaching which was my choice as I’ve been meaning to try this activity for a long time. We found our first cache near the beginning of the month close to home. It was a large Tupperware filled with various items to swap. My youngest didn’t understand why she couldn’t have everything. My eldest, however, love it. Another weekend we met up with my sister-in-law and 9-year-old nephew. We found 2 caches, much smaller than the first. Finally, we found a micro-cache when we were having a day out at a local National Trust. We discovered there are a lot more at this property (Dunham Massey) so we can’t wait to go back and find them all. We’ve love geocaching and I think it is a great outdoor activity that can be enjoyed by all ages. We’ll definitely be continuing to find them.
