A first birthday, starting school and a rainbow cake #littleloves

This week started with E’s first birthday last Friday. It was just a quiet day at home, just me and the girls. On Saturday we had a lovely day out to another local National Trust property. They had a story and play, baby and toddler session that E enjoyed. After that, we explored the gardens and had cake in the cafe. On Sunday we had a small family party planned. E was sick in the night and we thought we’d have to cancel her party but she seemed perfectly fine in the day. The party went well and E seemed to enjoy it. Unfortunately, she was sick again twice in the night and I ended up having to stay home with her on Monday. I felt bad for letting work down on only my second week back but she was not fit for nursery and one of us had to stay off. I know from experience that I would have spent the day worrying about her and feeling guilty. ¬†Thankfully she wasn’t sick again but she refused to eat and slept a lot on Monday (not like her at all). By Tuesday¬†she was a lot better so my husband stayed home with her and I went into work.

Here are the things I loved this week.

When F was a baby I bought a record book that lasted until 18. I know a lot of people say they don’t fill baby books in, especially for second children but perhaps it’s the blogger in me because I like them. I’ve filled F’s in every year around her birthday and I bought one for E too. This week I enjoyed reading through F’s first birthday entry before I started filling in E’s. They are so similar in many ways but also really different in other ways.

Nothing on tv really. I really want to watch Rivera so I’ve downloaded it but not found time to watch any yet.

Last week I mentioned making jelly. Well on Friday, I enjoy watching my 2 enjoy the messy play. I made one for each of them and let them play. They both really enjoyed it. F lasted over 30 minutes and needed a bath afterwards! E enjoyed it for about 10 minutes which is what I expected for her age.

For E’s birthday party I made a rainbow cake. I say this every time but cake decorating is really not my strong point. Luckily some sprinkles hid all the lumps and bumps! The cakes were a bit discoloured as well when they came out of the oven but thankfully when I cut into it the colours were lovely and vibrant.

I’ll hand this one over to the birthday girl as well. E wore one of her new summer dresses for her party. This lovely little dress is from Boots mini club. She has plenty of hand me downs from her big sister but sometimes we can’t resist buying her new bits.

On Wednesday evening, we rushed from work to a meeting at the school F will be starting in September. We met one of F’s new teachers (she’ll have two doing a job share) who seems lovely and heard lots of information about the school. We are taking her tomorrow (yes on a Saturday) so that she can see the school and meet the staff and other children for the first time. I’m excited and nervous!

And lastly ….

I believe the weather is meant to be nice this weekend. We’ve no plans after F’s school visit so I look forward to seeing what we get up to. I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

I love the idea too but I really hope I keep it up. I’ve struggled a little this year as I don’t get a lot of time to myself and there is only 6 weeks between their birthdays.

I love E’s dress and that cake looks so delicious. Ahh we’re thinking about schools now and I’m so nervous/scared/excited. It goes so quickly doesn’t it. I love the idea of record books. We started one for Evie but I’m not regretting not carrying it on. It’s such a lovely thing to look back on. x

It does go so fast and I’m also torn between excited for her and nervous.

Well done on the cake! I did a rainbow cake for my E’s first birthday too and found it so stressful I swore I’d never make one again…. guess what she wants for her seventh birthday..??! Yep, another rainbow cake!
You are so good filling in the baby books, I’m kicking myself for not finishing off either of my girls’ books. It makes me so sad, as I thought I wouldn’t forget milestones but with time passing I’ve forgotten who did what and when.

Thank you. I actually didn’t find baking this cake too stressful until it came to decorating it. If you want any advice just ask. I’m hoping to write a blog post on it but I don’t get much time to blog and have loads of ideas for posts!
