I love getting my kids out in the garden and one of the things we love to do is grow fruit and vegetables. These super cute vegetable plant markers are a great way to help you all remember what you have planted where.

This is a lovely craft to do either outside in the garden or on a rainy day, ahead of sowing your vegetable patch.
Supplies needed to make DIY plant markers
* Jumbo popsicle sticks (coloured or regular)
Paintbrushes (fine tip for details)
Cup of water and paper towel (for rinsing brushes)
Clear sealant spray (optional, for outdoor use to make sure your gorgeous designs last)

How to craft these simple plant markers
It couldn’t be easier to create these plant markers. I’ve included step by step instructions for 4 different veggies.
Step 1: Choose Your Base Stick
Use colored jumbo popsicle sticks to save time painting the base color, or you can use plain wooden sticks and paint them the color of the fruit or vegetable you’re making (let dry before adding details).

Step 2: Paint Your Fruits and Veggies
This is where you need to plan what you are growing this year and use your creative skills to make the popsicle sticks look like the fruit and vegetables.
Here are a few ideas to get you started (they’re also some of the easiest fruit and vegetables to grow with kids).

Strawberry Marker
Use a red popsicle stick and start by painting a green stem at the top.

Next fill the small top gap above the stem with white paint.

Add tiny black seed marks all over the red area to look like strawberry seeds.

Tomato Marker
use a red popsicle stick. Paint a green leafy stem at the top center.

Carrot Marker
Use an orange popsicle stick. At the top, paint a green leafy tuft. At the bottom, add small white horizontal marks to add texture.

Corn Marker
use a yellow popsicle stick. At the bottom, paint green leaves wrapping up like husks. Scatter small white slightly curvy marks across the yellow part.

Step 3: Seal (Optional)
If you will be using these outdoors, spray with a clear sealant to make them weather-resistant.

These are just suggestions. Feel free to get creative! Try painting sticks to look like peppers, blueberries, peas, lettuce, or any other plant you’re growing.
