How to Make Your Gingerbread Felt People

Step 1: Fold & Trace

Fold a piece of tan coloured felt in half. With a pencil or fabric marker, sketch the outline of a gingerbread person. Don’t worry about perfect detail, a simple cookie-man shape works well.

Step 2: Cut Out Two Shapes

Cut along the outline through both layers of felt. This gives you two identical gingerbread people shapes.

Step 3: Cut the Decorative Details

Next comes the fun part where you can see your gingerbread people come to life.

From the white felt, cut:

  • Two small circles (for eyes)
  • A curved smile
  • Wiggly “icing” strips to decorate arms and legs

From the coloured felt, cut:

  • Small circles (to act as buttons)
  • A bow shape (optional, but very charming!)

These felt decorations are where your kids can really get creative and make each person unique with their choice of colors and decorative elements.

Step 4: Arrange & Style

Lay your gingerbread shape flat on the table. Arrange the eyes, smile, icing, buttons and bow until it looks just how you like it. Let your child experiment with placement.

Step 5: Glue Everything Down

Once you are happy with the arrangement, glue each piece carefully in place. Allow the glue to dry fully.
