There are so many things to do with kids in Anglesey but if you are specifically travelling with a toddler then this is the post for you. I have found some of the best things to do with a toddler in Anglesey. When it comes to keeping our toddlers occupied we can often be at a loss as to where to go or what to do.
Often family attractions are the ones to look out for, but are they really suitable for toddlers? Many attractions have children in mind, but the last thing you want to do is to head somewhere, pay money as an entry fee, and find that there isn’t too much for your little ones to do. I have taken some of the guesswork away.
Why visit Anglesey with a toddler?
Anglesey is a small but beautiful island separated from North Wales by the Menai straits. We’ve had many summer holidays in Anglesey since our girls were babies so we know the best places to take young children.
Personally, I don’t think you can beat Anglesey for family holidays if the weather is good. Don’t worry if you do get a rainy day either. There are so many things to do in Anglesey in the rain for the whole family.
There are loads of beautiful beaches, fantastic family attractions and places to go for a family walk.
The advantage of travelling with toddlers is that you can visit outside school holidays when it is significantly less busy too.
Let’s move on to the best places to visit with a toddler in Anglesey.
Breakwater Country Park
If you were looking for a lovely open space to enjoy with your toddler then this is a great option to consider. Based just outside of Holyhead, this is a lovely place to enjoy with little ones. With play areas and places to enjoy a picnic or a kickabout with the ball, this could be the ideal location. There is also lots of trails to follow so you can rest assured that your toddler will enjoy it here.
The country park is right at the bottom of Holyhead mountain and if you did want to climb it, this is a great place to park and climb to the summit. It’s not a big mountain and is very suitable for children but perhaps not toddlers. You can still enjoy a great day out here with younger children.
The play area was completely renovated and extended in 2022. It has lots of equipment for children of all ages. There are lots of things that your toddler will enjoy.
There are lots of flat paths that you can walk around which are also perfect for little legs to walk too. The pond often has ducks on it and some days you might be lucky to see the local model boat club sailing mini motorboats on it.

Pili Palas Nature World
This is one of the leading family attractions on the island and has an outdoor area where you can experience some of the cutest animals and an adventure playground. While there is plenty to enjoy outside there is also the benefit of an indoor area as well. Inside you will get to experience the butterfly house, the bird house, lizards, the bug zone, and the meerkat tunnel, to name a few. There is also a great cafe on site and soft play.

Foel Farm Park
You can’t beat a trip to the farm when you have a little one. They can get so excited seeing different animals but it is also exciting to visit at different times of the year as there are usually different things going on at the farm such as baby lambs, baby chicks, and other young farm animals. They also have a petting zoo so young ones can actually spend time with different animals. It is a great experience for toddlers and a perfect place to enjoy some time with the family.

Anglesey Sea Zoo
Anglesey Sea Zoo is the perfect location for toddlers. It is an indoor attraction, so if the weather isn’t so great you know you will still enjoy some time with your little one. There are 40 tanks filled with different marine life making this a fun day out for toddlers.
They focus on the sea life that you will find off the British Coast which includes creatures such as octopuses, lobsters, seahorses, conger eels, and jellyfish. It is located in the area of Brynsiencyn.

Puffin Island Pleasure Cruise
Puffin Island is a great place to visit with your little ones. It is a bird sanctuary and is home to many different breeds of sea birds. The boat trips will take you around the small island pointing out different places of interest and wildlife. You may even get to spot a dolphin or porpoise. Being on a boat will be super exciting for toddlers, and there is even the chance of booking a one-hour speedy cruise if you want to have a short excursion. Under 3s are free on the 80 minute puffin island cruise.

Newborough Forest
When it comes to toddlers, the best thing is to get them outside, and heading to Newborough Forest nature reserve could be one of the best options to consider when looking for things to do with a toddler in Anglesey.
There are lots of paths through the woods and you can park free at Maes Parcio Maltraeth but if you want to visit the beach with a toddler, I’d recommend paying the fee to drive through the forest and park by the beach. You can still do some woodland walks from here as well as the gorgeous beach. There are also toilet facilities in this car park.

Penrhos Country Park
There are beautiful woodland walks to be had in Penrhos Country Park. It is a truly wonderful location that your little one will love exploring with you. Not only do you have the woods to enjoy but there is also a quieter little beach that you can find giving you one of the best days outside you can have.
Parking is free and there is a car park at both the cricket club end and the main entrance by the cafe. There are loads of paths to explore and a few quirky surprises in the woods like a folly tower and a dog cemetery.

Go for a walk at Parys mountain
Parys mountain is a great place to go for a family walk. It’s a really unique, other-worldly landscape. It’s suitable for pushchairs if you have an off-road one and perfect for little legs too. It’s possible to do different lengths of a walk and there are some bits that you might not choose to do with a toddler (such as walking down into some of the former quarries). Parking is free too.
It is possible to do a fairly flat walk around Parys mountain too but you can walk down into one of the quarries too if you want more of a hilly walk. My kids love walking here.
Beaumaris Castle
Even though your toddler is still young in age you will want to spark their imagination in many ways and heading to a castle is one of the best ways to do it. They may have watched cartoons and films where there are princesses and knights exploring the castles and living in a fairyland. Beaumaris Castle is a lovely location to explore with your little ones. As for us adults, it is also a picturesque lovely day.

What toddler doesn’t love a play area? There are two play parks in Beaumaris with play equipment suitable for toddlers. There is also a paddling pool by Beaumaris pier for hot days or you could try crabbing from the pier. There are also lots of little shops and cafes to explore and the best ice cream from the Red boat cafe.
Melin Llynon
If you want something a bit different then why not head to Melin Llynon? There is a windmill to experience, homemade chocolate where there is a chocolate factory to enjoy, and a cheeky gin for the grownups. You also can explore the model safari and the roundhouses. It is a little more unique than a standard day out with a toddler, but it is certainly enjoyable for everyone.

The Dingle (Nant Y Pandy) Nature Reserve
This is a 25-acre woodland to explore and a great place to take toddlers and children. It is a nature reserve so there will be plenty of opportunities to see some wildlife. You can follow the woodland trails and experience the epic structures along the way.
The nature trail is suitable for pushchairs as a lot of it is wooden boardwalks and there are plenty of flat paths.

Plas Newydd
If you are a National Trust member you need to visit Plas Newydd as it is a great place for family walks. You might even be lucky enough to see red squirrels in the woodlands.
There is a play area in the woods which has equipment for older children and small children too. You’ll find a picnic area in the woods too as well as plenty of benches and places to put down a picnic blanket through the rest of the gardens.
There is a really magical tree house too and the steps are very easy for a toddler to climb with an adult.

A trip to the beach
When it comes to finding things to do with a toddler in Anglesey then the one thing you know you are assured with its beaches. Anglesey has some of the best beaches in Wales and it really is one of the best places to visit with a little one. The sandy beach is a playground of sandcastles and treasures, and paddling in the water is such fun. There are many beaches on the island of Anglesey but here are a few recommendations of some of the best.
- Benllech Bay is a large sandy beach with a few facilities and good pushchair access to the beach
- Treaddur bay which has a lovely promenade, play area across the road, facilities, shops and cafes
- Red Wharf Bay, is another large sandy beach.

Greenwood family park
If you’re happy to drive a short distance over the Menai bridge to North Wales, you’ll find loads more great family attractions. One of our favourites is Greenwood family park which is an eco-adventure park which is fantastic for families. There are plenty of things for toddlers to do here including outdoor play areas, boats, sledges and indoor play areas.
