I love autumn children’s books. There’s something special about reading books with your children that are perfect for the current season. Autumn (or fall depending on where you are in the world) seems to be a particularly good season for kids books. There are so many beautiful ones. I’m planning to write a blog post for each age range, starting today with autumn books for toddlers.

Autumn books for toddlers
This is a bright coloured board book full of flaps which in my experience toddlers love. Although not specific to autumn, I always associate forest books with autumn. It’s not really a story but a collection of rhymes and facts. Perfect for toddlers who love animals.
This part of a series of board books that teach toddlers basic concepts like numbers, opposites and the alphabet. They are all set on a country walk and each one is themed to a season. 1 2 3 is set in autumn and each number from 1 to 20 has its own page with a specific number of items to illustrate the number. There are lots of books on the market that cover counting but I love that this one uses nature and is perfect for families who like spending time outdoors.
I’m sure you are more than familiar with this classic rhyming book. We read this book all year round but for me, it’s a perfect autumn read. It really captures the imagination of toddlers and they'll love hunting for the Gruffalo whenever you are in the woods.
This board book is another great book for introducing seasons to toddlers. The illustrations are really sweet too. Follow the children as they have fun playing indoors and outdoors in autumn. This book is sure to get your children excited about autumn activities such as collecting acorns, splashing in muddy puddles and picking apples, pears and pumpkins. Again we love this book so much we have the complete set of all 4 seasons.
This book is part of a series of books for all seasons. There are no words at all inside the books but the beautiful pictures are great talking points with young children. There are illustrations showing the joys of playing in leaves, collecting conkers, flying kites and making jam.
This is another book that is part of a set of 4. We had the full set when my girls were younger and they loved them. This is a really simple board book with lovely illustrations and a few tactile areas. The book follows Millie-Mae through an autumn day focusing on the tree around her house, what she wears for the season and playing in the autumn leaves at the park.
This book follows the style of the classic "we're going on a bear hunt". Three friends are going on a hiking adventure to collect leaves. What will they do with them all? Jump in them of course!
With easy rhyming text and fun sound effects, children will delight in this story. It's an Americal book so refers to fall and has American spellings too.
This book is perfect for toddlers as it is full of different textures to touch and feel. There are plump orange pumpkins and crunchy leaves too among other things.
This sweet little board book contains raised elements, cut out shapes and the most adorable illustrations. It's a short, rhyming story perfect for this season.
This is a classic fall book about the pleasures of harvest time. There are sweet illustrations and not too much text on each page making it perfect for toddlers.
This is a lovely lift the flap book that your toddler will adore. It's all about autumn in the forest. As well as lift the flaps there are pop up elements too.
This is a simple and sweet book about bears first autumn. Bear is surprised when the leaves start falling off the trees, but when he tries to reattach them, it doesn't work. Eventually, he gets sleepy, and burrows into the fallen leaves for a long nap. When he wakes up, it's spring-and there are suddenly brand-new leaves all around, seeming to welcome him. The perfect book for starting to introduce changing seasons to toddle
