September marks back to school and a change of season for many. I love autumn for seasonal kid’s activities. There are so many fantastic September activities for kids. The colours of the autumn woodland make it one of my favourite places to visit. My kids love collecting autumn treasures like conkers and acorns too. We use them in our play and crafting at home throughout autumn. This post is part of my series of posts on Seasonal activities for kids.

Below are some of my posts that are most relevant for this month. Keep popping back for more seasonal activities to do with your kids this month too. Autumn activities for kids are some of my favourite things to do this month.

September in the garden

September can be another busy month in the garden. You might still have some crops to continue to harvest or you might even have pumpkins that are still ripening. Other jobs will include clearing away weeds and plants that have finished producing this year and plant green manure in any empty beds.

If you also grow flowers then you can start planting flowering bulbs for the spring.

Perhaps it’s time to start thinking about encouraging wildlife into your garden.

One way to encourage wildlife into your garden is to put out a bird feeder.

It might even be time to start planning what you will grow next year. What worked well for you this year? what would you like to try growing next year?

Perhaps you’re just starting to think about starting gardening with kids.

September ideas for creating and playing

There are lots of opportunities for crafting and play in autumn. We love to use natural loose parts in play and art and there are so many options in autumn.

One of our favourite things to do with all the fallen leaves by children love to collect is to paint with them. If you do too then you’ll love my post on Autumn process art for toddlers (but preschool and primary school children will enjoy it too and perhaps build on the idea too).

Or perhaps you’ll use all the leaves, conkers and other natural loose parts to set up a simple autumn preschool maths activity (again you can build on the idea for older children).

If you want even more ideas I’ve rounded up loads of ideas from all over the web here –

We love visiting the woods in autumn so it’s a great time to try forest school inspired activities. I have a couple of posts with forest school ideas.
