September in the garden
September can be another busy month in the garden. You might still have some crops to continue to harvest or you might even have pumpkins that are still ripening. Other jobs will include clearing away weeds and plants that have finished producing this year and plant green manure in any empty beds.
If you also grow flowers then you can start planting flowering bulbs for the spring.
Perhaps it’s time to start thinking about encouraging wildlife into your garden.

One way to encourage wildlife into your garden is to put out a bird feeder.
- Learn how to make a pine cone bird feeder here.
- You can find loads more Bird feeders for children here.
It might even be time to start planning what you will grow next year. What worked well for you this year? what would you like to try growing next year?
Perhaps you’re just starting to think about starting gardening with kids.

There are lots of opportunities for crafting and play in autumn. We love to use natural loose parts in play and art and there are so many options in autumn.
One of our favourite things to do with all the fallen leaves by children love to collect is to paint with them. If you do too then you’ll love my post on Autumn process art for toddlers (but preschool and primary school children will enjoy it too and perhaps build on the idea too).
